Secord's Team Raises Almost $12000 for the Rankin Cancer Run
The weather was perfect for the Rankin Cancer Run on Saturday, May 24th. Our team had 165 participants in a day that saw over $750,000 raised for local cancer initiatives. Over 12,000 people participated in the Run, with 260 different teams and 55 different schools involved.
Laura Secord's number of participants made us the 6th largest team in the even, and our fundraising efforts, winding up at $11, 865, earned us 4th place amongst the 55 schools.
Our staff and students, besides participating in the Run, were also responsible for running a water station. As well, of course, who can forget the Drumline pumping up everyone's adrenaline for the event.
Congratulations to the winners of our "Giant Gummy Bear and Worm" Contest. Lucas Hansen's dentist will be happy to know he won the Gummy Worm, and Oliver Ledesma has bagged himself a giant Gummy Bear. Thanks for helping us raise even more money for the Rankin Run, guys!
Special congratulations to Secord's Katie Juritsch and Sara Coull for being named "Heroes" this year. Katie organized a car wash at Grace Lutheran Church the week before the Run, and raised $1200 that day! As well, Sara was honoured for her efforts in creating "Sara's Team" for the Run.
